Café volunteers needed on the weekends

Would you like to support your local community hub?

Are you interested in meeting your neighbours and getting to know people in your local community?

Do you want to learn new skills or build your confidence in preparation for starting or returning to paid work?

Can you spare 4 hours a week or 4 hours a fortnight to help run the café in Lordship Hub on a Saturday or a Sunday?

What is the role?

Café volunteers take on the following tasks:

  • Opening up and setting up
  • Welcoming customers, taking orders and operating the till
  • Food preparation and cooking
  • Cleaning, dish washing and close down

You don’t need to be able to do all of these tasks – we can make sure you focus on the tasks that suit you best.

What is the time commitment?

Each volunteer shift is 4 hours, with start times staggered throughout the day:

  • 8am to noon (Saturdays only)
  • 10am to 2pm
  • 11am to 3pm
  • 1pm to 5pm

We suggest a minimum commitment of 1 shift per week, particularly for the first 4 weeks while you are learning the ropes. Once you are familiar with all the tasks and how the café works, it can be feasible to commit to 1 shift per fortnight.

Currently, we are especially short of volunteers on Saturdays and Sundays and would like to hear from people who want to volunteer on the weekend.

We have less need of volunteers on weekdays, but you are welcome to apply and we could put you on a waiting list.

Why do we have volunteers in the Hub café?

There are lots of reasons we recruit volunteers to help run the Hub and its café:

  • The Hub is a community run co-operative which provides services needed and wanted in the area, and we are always looking new volunteers to get involved and shape our services
  • The co-operative has a 25-year lease with Haringey council which means we fulfil certain obligations – engaging local volunteers, toilets for park users, and free meeting rooms for park groups – instead of paying rent
  • The Hub is committed to providing low cost, healthy food for local residents who are struggling with rising living costs, and volunteers can help us keep our costs and our prices lower than they would be otherwise

If you are interested in getting involved, please complete the form on our website.
