As Part of Haringey’s Women’s History Month on
Sunday 23 March 2.30-5pm
Lordship Hub will be showing a 2020 documentary called “Miss World 1970: Beauty Queens and Bedlam”. A documentary about the protest by members of the newly formed Women’s Liberation Movement against the yearly contest, televised every year, and compered that year by Bob Hope, which many felt was a degrading cattle market.
We will have a discussion after the film. This was the first time a black contestant had won and there were 2 South African entrants, one black, one white, so any discussion will also focus on what the contest meant to those women in terms of their life experience as black women in this very white cultural event.
